2012 Ford Shelby GT500
With a price tag approaching $50,000, though, supremacy doesnt come cheap. Thats more than double what the plenty capable 305-hp Mustang V6 costs and almost $20,000 more than the already raucous Mustang GT. Thats a lot of scratch for a Mustang, especially one stuck with an interior not much different from a well-equipped Mustang GT. Unimpressive interior materials and a tilt-only steering wheel are even more glaring oversights at this price.
But on the whole, these are minor blemishes next to everything thats great about the 2012 Ford Shelby GT500. Its a quicker thrill than the Camaro and the Challenger, and its backseat makes it more practical than a Corvette. No doubt it will be a fond deathbed memory for those lucky enough to own one.
Exterior and Interior
The Shelby GT500 is distinguished from the other Mustangs in the line-up by a more aggressive exterior look with a signature coiled Cobra badge on the front grille and front fenders. It also separates itself with a unique aluminum power dome hood with functional heat extractors and unique Shelby front and rear fascias, rear diffuser, and decklid spoiler. Both coupe and convertible versions come with racing stripes on both the top and the sides with 19" painted forged-aluminum wheels rolling at the bottom.
The interior gets leather sport buckets w/racing stripes coordinated to the exterior stripes and Alcantara Suede accents. A new feature for the 2012 model year will be the new sun visor that features illuminated dual vanity mirrors.
Two new packages are added to the Mustang’s list of options. The new Electronics Package is priced at $2,340 and includes Navigation and Dual Zone Climate Control. The $3,995 SVT Performance Package includes upgraded, premium painted forged aluminum wheels that are 19″x9.5 in the front and 20″x9.5″ in the rear.
The Engine
The 2012 Shelby GT500 will feature the same engine as the 2011 model year: an all-new aluminum-block 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 engine, which produces 550 horsepower and 510 ft.-lb. of torque. This engine weighs 102 pounds less than the old motor. It’s mated to a six-speed manual transmission and delivers a fuel economy of 15 miles-per-gallon city and 23 highway.
The Competition
The Shelby GT500 takes on models like the BMW M3 , the chevrolet corvette, and the Dodge Viper SRT10. Now since the current Dodge Viper is out of production, the Mustang has one less vehicle to worry about in 2012.
The BMW M3 is powered by a V8 engine that develops a supreme 420 hp. Maximum torque of 400 NM or 295 lb-ft, in turn, comes at an engine speed of 3,900 rpm. The coupe version is priced at $58,400 and the convertible at $67,050. So we guess, in this case, the GT500 wins the battle being that it is more powerful and cheaper that the BMW.
As for the Corvette, the coupe is priced at $48,950 and the convertible at $53,600. Under the hood there is a 430-hp LS3 aluminum block V8 good for 190 mph on the test track. These two vehicles carry such a loyal fan base, that the decision of whether to buy a Corvette or a Mustang is really left up to customer bias. The Mustang is faster than the Corvette, but it is also a tad bit more expensive.

2012 Peugeot 308 CC

A FLUID AND LUXURIOUS INTERIOR
Stylists worked hard to exploit to the full the interior volumes freed up by the semi-tall architecture of the Peugeot 308. They therefore designed a particularly inclined fascia panel, almost symmetrical to the front windscreen pillars, to offer unimpeded exterior visibility.
In addition, there was a marked determination to give the interior a very upmarket feel and an enhanced sense of perceived quality. The result is a fluid, pure and elegant fascia panel where pride of place is given to superior materials, according to finish: soft covering, leather trim, chrome, black lacquered materials… The care given to the finish and the emphasis on interior comfort are evident in every detail. According to the level in the range, new motifs decorate the door panel strips, panel trim, thumb rests on the steering wheel, etc. Similarly, the special seats on the GTi version have red visible stitching with specific marking on top of the seat back and an aluminium steering wheel ring showing the word “GTi”. Dark-tinted rear windows combined with dark wheel trims (Storm Grey) and the titanium mask of the discharge lamps, give this version a sporty and assertive identity, perfectly in keeping with the dynamic potential of its 1.6 litre THP 200 bhp engine.
Inside the 308 CC, the eye is caught also by the elegance of the 4 seats with integral head restraints and the possibility of full leather trim on the fascia panel, in different shades, which convey a touring car image. This distinctive design makes for even more comfortable seats with an Airwave warm air diffuser behind the necks of the front passengers. The pleasure of open-top driving is thus enhanced.
ELEGANT LINES ENHANCED BY ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY
The design of the new Peugeot 308 subtly incorporates the new stylistic codes of the Peugeot Marque. While the dimensions are unchanged, the new lines marry as closely as possible the cars mechanical assembly to accentuate its athletic poise, while the front aspect gives a fresh look to the "floating" front grille concept. Greater importance accorded to unbroken surfaces marks a determination to present an elegant and luxurious style. The central protective capping, available in a black lacquer finish, has been made thinner to give greater prominence to the sheer metal. This is also true of the single air intake which is now smaller in size.
Styling elements enhance the natural elegance which emanates from the new 308. A satin chrome bead enhances the new front grille, as do horizontal bars, available in lustrous black or chrome according to body shape (saloon, CC or SW).
The bottom section of the lower front panel, which helps visually to broaden the car and "plant" it on the road, incorporates new dual-function lights (daytime and sidelights) shaped like a boomerang, available according to versions. With their meticulous finish, they blend perfectly and are harmoniously positioned on the upper surround of the fog light housing. Composed of variable intensity LEDs and a light guide, they guarantee a unique visual signature by day and by night while illustrating the high level of technology featured on the new 308.
In the upper section, the V-shaped nose of the bonnet is one of the main expressive features of the Peugeot 308. It has been redesigned to fit the cars mechanical assembly as closely as possible and provides a new link with the floating front grille, in line with Peugeots new stylistic codes. The Marque badge, in its new dual material construction, is proudly positioned at the tip of the bonnet on a new black lacquer base set with a chrome bead, also in the shape of a V.
The outline of this nose, fluid and characteristic, is more curvaceous, particularly at the junction of the lights and the bonnet. The new smooth glass front headlamps, closely fitting the three cylinders, suggest a look that is both refined and assertive. And when the 308 is equipped with dynamic bi-directional Xenon headlamps complete with titanium coloured base, this look becomes even more profound, displaying all the strength of character of the new 308.

2014 VW GTI Packs 227 Horsepower With the New Performance Pack
VW is bringing its all-new seventh-generation Golf to the 2012 Paris Motor Show this week. Weve already seen the standard Golf model, but this week VW is unveiling the Golf BlueMotion and the iconic 2014 GTI.
The 2014 Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0L with 217 horsepower and 258 lb-ft. of torque. The Golf GTI reaches 0-62 mph in 6.6 seconds and has a top speed of 153 mph. For the first time ever, the GTI will be available with a new performance pack that bumps the GTIs power up to 227 horsepower and gives it a 0-62 mph time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. The perfomrance package also adds larger front brakes and a front axle differential lock which reduces power-related understeer.
Both GTI versions will be equipped with a standard Stop/Start system, and fulfil the EU-6 emissions standard that takes effect in 2014. With a six-speed manual gearbox, the GTI is set to return 47.1* mpg (an 18 per cent improvement over the Mk VI). A six-speed DSG gearbox is available as an option for both power levels.
Both GTI models also get a standard from a variable ratio steering system which, in essence, allows the driver toturn the car through a desired radius with smaller movements of the steering wheel. While conventional steering systems work with a fixed ratio, the new Golf GTI operates with a variable steering ratio which reduces steering input. On twisting country roads, the driver experiences a benefit in dynamics due to the more direct layout.
The 2014 GTI is distinguished by its red brake calipers, honeycomb grille with double red stripe detail, smoked LED rear lights and LED license plate illumination and chrome 80 mm diameter tailpipes. Inside the GTI gets tartan sports seats, a flat bottomed steering wheel, GTI golf ball gear knob and GTI-specific red ambience lighting.
The new Golf GTI is set to go on sale in mainland Europe in early 2013 and the UK in summer 2013. Its expected to reach the U.S. by the end of 2013.

Ford targets aggressive pricing for EcoSport
